Me Time

I think it is so important to set aside time for yourself. In this day and age, we find ourselves always looking for the next task to do, the next activity to mark off our checklist. Once that checklist is done, it is time to start a new one. Having goals and dreams are great and highly encouraged in life; however, setting aside time for yourself to relax and re-center is ever so important.

I have noticed that I am happiest in life when I set aside either one night a week or a few minutes a day to devote solely on doing something I love and something that relaxes me.

Here are some ideas to relax and unwind

1. Yoga.

This is one of my favorite activities to do to re-center myself and spend time with myself. Yoga not only stretches your muscles and tones your body, but it also calms your mind and helps you focus and reduce stress/tension. My favorite way to unwind after a tough day is to light a couple candles, turn on some classical music on really low, and do some yoga for 10-15 minutes before jumping into bed. Not only can yoga give you time to think and love yourself, but it also calms your mind and body, making it easier to fall asleep at night if you have insomnia or sleeping problems!

2. Reading a good book.

The art of reading books has slowly gone out of our generation. When I mention to my peers that I love to read, many of them moan and groan, turn their face into a contorted snare, and gripe about how much they hate reading and how boring it is. My reply? You simply haven’t read enough books to have stumbled upon your favorites. There is a book out there for everyone!

Reading a book really calms you down too. Finding time to unwind and relax your body, letting your mind escape into another world. Reading is a great activity to spend with yourself.

3. Bath!

Who says baths are for little kids?! I love unwinding from the day and taking a long, hot soak. Turn off the lights, light a few candles, and I am transported to another world. Allowing your mind to wander and just enjoy the quietness of your mind is so refreshing. The hot/warm water really loosens up your muscles and the steamy water vapor opens up your pores, lungs, and provides relaxation. Not to mention, you feel so squeaky clean afterwards!

Those are just a few of my favorite things to do to unwind and spend time loving myself. I find myself comparing my looks to others; whether to women in magazines, on Pinterest, or friends. I find myself critiquing my body to no end, always wanting to improve, and getting down on myself a lot for things that I cannot change. Setting aside time for yourself, loving yourself unconditionally, and doing positive things for your mind and body really impacts how you act towards others. Want to be happier? Try one of those 3 ideas above and see how they transform your week.

Goal this month: Set aside at least 1 night a week to spend time loving yourself! No phone, no internet, no friends, just YOU!
